Irene”

In spite of relentless rain and high winds from hurricane “Irene”, the weekly divine liturgy took place on Sunday, August 28th.  While almost all of the regular parishioners stayed home that day due to impassable roads and bridges, guests of the “Xenia” Motel across the way, flocked to church in order to say a prayer and escape the rising Schoharie Creek that flooded the motel’s downstairs hall.  Due to the weather-related loss of electricity, Father Stepan Popko conducted the liturgy in the dark and blessed herbs and flowers on the occasion of The Dormition of the Holy Mother of God. Father Stepan also offered the church as shelter to those with no place to go.  The victims of “Irene” are in our prayers.  Below are some photographs  shot of areas around the Ukrainian Mountaintop on Sunday.  (Photo credit: T.
