The celebration of Holy Days and Feasts in September-December, 2023

On February 6, 2023, his Beatitude, Patriarch Sviatoslav announced the following historical decision: “The Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) in Ukraine will switch from September 1, according to the new style (beginning of the Indictus) of the Year of our Lord 2023, to a new style for fixed holidays with the preservation of the current Paschalia.” His Beatitude Sviatoslav emphasized asking all the faithful to listen to their Mother Church’s voice and maintain unity and unanimity during the calendar reform.

In accordance with our Patriarch’s appeal, and the blessing of our bishop (Most Rev. Paul Chomnycky), beginning in September our Parishes will celebrate fixed holidays according to the new style. Please note that the dates for fixed holidays are listed for 2023 through December; beginning in September of this year, the date will not change from year to year (for fixed holidays).

The Resurrection of our Lord for 2024 (Pascha/Easter) will be celebrated on May 5, 2024. In two years, the Resurrection will be celebrated throughout the world on the same day – April 20, 2025. The movable holy days (including Ascension and Pentecost) change based on the date of Easter.
